Medical registration for international fellows
Medical registration, immigration permission, hospital credentialing and programme acceptance are separate decisions. Approval in one area does not automatically provide the others.
Educational guidance, not legal, immigration, licensing or admissions advice.Four separate checks
Confirm professional registration, hospital credentialing, indemnity or insurance, and immigration or work authorisation with the relevant official bodies and host.
Match the role to the requirement
An observership may have different requirements from a clinical appointment. A programme page may describe eligibility without guaranteeing registration or operative privileges.
Use current official sources
Rules and processing times change. Follow the regulator and host institution for the current pathway, accepted evidence, language requirements, fees and processing sequence.
Keep written records
Save the programme’s confirmation of role, dates and sponsorship, and keep copies of documents submitted. Do not make irreversible travel commitments based only on an informal message.
Sources checked and applicant checklist
This guide compares decision layers, not national legal advice. Use the regulator pathway matching your qualification and intended role.
Before you act
- Ask what the fellow may observe, assist with or perform under supervision.
- Confirm whether registration, hospital credentialing and indemnity are required.
- Compare the promised role, supervision, duration and outputs in writing.
- Treat a programme title or host listing as insufficient evidence of clinical privileges.

Frequently asked questions
Can OrthoFellow confirm my licensing eligibility?
No. OrthoFellow organises published information and links to sources; only the relevant regulator and host can decide an individual application.
Does a visa allow clinical practice?
Not by itself. Immigration permission does not replace professional registration, credentialing or hospital privileges.
