How to prepare an orthopaedic fellowship CV

A fellowship CV should help a selector understand your current level, relevant experience and intended next step quickly. Accuracy and relevance matter more than decorative design.

Educational guidance, not legal, immigration, licensing or admissions advice.

Lead with current status

State your present appointment, training completion, specialist certification and contact details clearly. Use terminology that an international reviewer can understand.

Prioritise relevant evidence

Move subspecialty rotations, operative experience, research, teaching and courses relevant to the target programme ahead of less useful detail.

Quantify without exaggerating

If an operative log is appropriate, distinguish primary surgeon, assisted and observed cases. Do not imply independent competence from exposure alone.

Make verification easy

Use consistent dates, full institution names, accurate publication citations and referee details. Follow the programme’s page limit and requested format.

EVIDENCE AND ACTIONS

Sources checked and applicant checklist

AO Trauma is used only as a first-party example that a CV and supporting documents can be mandatory. Each programme controls its own format.

Before you act

  • Open the current provider page and save the cycle, deadline and application route.
  • Separate programme eligibility from registration, credentialing and immigration decisions.
  • Record unknown funding, privileges or dates as unknown and ask the official contact.
  • Recheck the source before paying fees or making non-refundable travel commitments.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Should I use one CV for every programme?

Maintain one accurate master CV, then reorder and shorten it for the target programme without changing the underlying facts.

Do I need a photograph?

Only include one when requested or customary for the specific application. Follow the host’s instructions and local expectations.
