Application approach
Beijing combines sports-medicine and international-network routes; Shanghai includes knee and shoulder training alongside trauma-host evidence. More focused city listings may contain a single society host, which is useful for locating expertise but should not be read as a broad choice of open posts.
China's official guidance requires authorisation for foreign physicians undertaking clinical diagnosis or treatment. Shanghai's application guide describes a temporary medical-practice licence with host-institution documentation and translated credentials. Ask the receiving hospital which steps apply to your nationality, intended duties and stay; a fellowship acceptance letter alone is insufficient.
- Confirm the hospital, department, campus and named training supervisor before submitting documents.
- Separate observation, laboratory or clinical research, supervised training and direct patient-care duties in the proposed learning plan.
- Ask the host about Mandarin or other working-language expectations and the language used during clinics and teaching.
- For clinical work, confirm medical-practice authorisation with the host and competent authority, alongside visa or residence requirements.
- Use the current society call or university-hospital application page for eligibility and timing; a host-centre entry is not an open invitation.
- Request written confirmation of tuition, stipend, accommodation, insurance and responsibility for registration expenses.
