APPLICANT GUIDE

How to use the India orthopaedic fellowship directory

Indian orthopaedic fellowship discovery is fragmented across society calls, hospital pages, city orthopaedic associations, NBEMS/FNB training notices, paediatric orthopaedic networks, specialty institutes and direct faculty-led programmes.

Application approach

OrthoFellow keeps society approval, official call terms, current application status, stipend evidence and hospital-specific facts separate. A published ISKSAA, IAS, BOS or NBEMS pathway supports discovery, but it does not automatically prove that a future vacancy is open or that an overseas surgeon has hands-on access.

NBEMS fellowships have an examination and admission process distinct from hospital certificates or society attachments. International candidates should check the Fellowship Programme for International Students and its specialty-specific eligibility; the NBEMS route should not be assumed to apply to every programme bearing the word fellowship.

  • Confirm whether the pathway is a society fellowship, NBEMS/FNB programme, hospital-based clinical fellowship, travelling fellowship, observership, research post or private-institute attachment.
  • Check MS/DNB/orthopaedic qualification level, society membership, age limits, nationality or SAARC/international applicant rules where the source publishes them.
  • Review whether hands-on operative participation, observation, research, ward work, case logs and conference attendance are explicitly described.
  • Confirm stipend, accommodation, fee, travel support, conference registration and local hospital credentialing directly with the host before paying or travelling.
  • Use city pages to compare Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Panchkula, Mohali, Pune and other documented hubs by subspecialty and official-source depth.

Deadlines and documents

India profiles include fixed society calls, historical 2026 windows, annual institutional cycles, NBEMS/FNB schedules and direct enquiry. Exact dates are used only when published by the official source, and passed dates are labelled as cycle intelligence for the next call.

Common documents include current cv with operative, research and teaching experience, motivation statement explaining subspecialty goals and host fit, medical degree, orthopaedic training certificate and board or college evidence where required, two or three references, often including a programme director or current head of department, passport, registration, visa or occupational-health documents when the hospital requires them, society membership or application-payment evidence when required by isksaa, ias, bos or another official call, medical council, institutional credentialing or visitor paperwork requested by the host hospital.

Language, registration and visa

English is common in many Indian medical-training contexts, but medical registration, hospital access, operative role, indemnity and international-visitor paperwork remain programme-specific.

Some ISKSAA, society and hospital pathways publish stipend, local hospitality, accommodation or funded-travel language; many programmes still require direct confirmation of salary, accommodation, fees and self-funded obligations.

PLANNING QUESTIONS

Applying for orthopaedic training in India

What orthopaedic training programmes are listed in India?

OrthoFellow currently indexes 202 current canonical pathways in India: 162 clinical fellowships, 1 research fellowships, 39 observerships and 0 short courses. Open each profile for its exact classification and current cycle status.

Are international surgeons eligible for every programme in India?

No. Eligibility, language, registration, immigration permission and hospital privileges depend on the specific programme and host. OrthoFellow shows published requirements and labels missing information for direct confirmation.

How current are the India listings?

Each programme profile shows its own checked date and official source. Availability and deadlines can change, so applicants should reopen the current official programme page before applying or paying costs.

Are India fellowship centres all open to international applicants?

No. Eligibility can depend on qualification, age, society membership, nationality, SAARC status, medical registration, visa status and host approval.

Does an ISKSAA, IAS, BOS or NBEMS source mean the post is open today?

No. It supports programme identity and cycle tracking, but OrthoFellow separately labels whether a current deadline, rolling route or only historical call evidence is published.

Which India cities should applicants compare first?

Start with the strongest indexed hubs for your subspecialty: Mumbai and New Delhi for broad inventory, Bengaluru and Chennai for sports and arthroplasty signals, Coimbatore for paediatric and mixed pathways, and Panchkula or Mohali for source-linked sports and arthroplasty routes.

How should applicants use passed 2026 India deadlines?

Treat them as cycle intelligence. They show likely timing, host names, stipend language and document expectations, but applicants should wait for the next official call before applying.

What is the difference between an FNB and a hospital fellowship?

FNB admission uses the NBEMS Fellowship Entrance Test and the relevant admission process. A hospital or society certificate can have a separate selection method and recognition status. Check the awarding body and current official information for the exact course.
