Clinical exposureSemester at one of the 16 SICM-accredited hand centres: full-time clinical and surgical activity documented in a log-book (minimum 100 hand/microsurgery procedures across the year), one manuscript submitted and a presentation at the SICM national congress. The unit (also on the FESSH training-centre list) covers replantation, hand trauma and post-traumatic problems, arthritis and joint replacement, nerve reconstruction and tendon transfers, wrist instability and arthroscopy, rheumatoid surgery, tetraplegia and elbow surgery; it also offers observer attachments and self-funded fellowships to plastic and orthopaedic surgeons.

One semester of the SICM national hand-surgery fellowship can be spent at Careggi's Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery unit in Florence. The fellowship runs 12 months across two accredited Italian centres; the 2026–27 cohort starts on 4 January 2027.
